Fish anyone?

While driving around Grenada, we came upon these fishermen hauling in a very long and large net full of small fish. They simply take out the guts and cook the rest including the head. They say the fish are wonderful and healthful. The bones are very little and soft so they don't worry about them when they eat the fish.

Chocolate anyone?

Sister Whitehead is walking through the cocoa beans at a cocoa plantation in Grenada. These seeds have to be turned several times a day so they dry properly. Many women are hired to just walk through the beans and shuffle the beans around so they are turned. Sister Whitehead had stained, dirty feet for days afterward.

Strong women!

These women create a new basket of fruit everyday and take it to areas where there are lots of tourists. They want you to give them a little money if you take their picture. The baskets weigh about 25 lbs. Sister Whitehead is standing with Elder Wood (Senior missionary in Grenada).

Health fair in Grenada

We set up several tents and tables for a health fair in Grenada. We had 216 people come to it and had their eyes checked, blood pressure, breasts examined, blood checked for various things, weight and height. I checked their weight. We had about 20 Doctors and medical students come to help us that day.

Sailing anyone?

This shows a 5 mast cruise ship. It was huge up close. People go for 2 weeks on what they call a working cruise. Everyday they work like deck hands and learn about sailing and the sea. They actually have sails on this huge ship that work.

What a harbor.

This is the main harbor on the island of Grenada. We went there for a health fair that was held next to the harbor. Grenada is a very beautiful island with a rich French and English background. This island is very hilly and the roads very narrow. Beautiful beaches though.

Up the river!

We are on a small river boat with one of the farmers we're working with. We are going to several farms to see the needs of a large farm co-op. We are going to help with seeds, fertilizer and other materials to help them. They had a horrible winter in which most of their crops were killed by excessive rain and flooding.

Wonderful fruit and veggies

Here is a picture of one of the fruit stands we buy our fruits and veggies from. I don't know what half of them are yet.

Where does sugar come from?

This shows a tractor with severl tons of sugar cane being hauled to the sugar factory. They burn the fields before they cut the cane to eliminate extra leaves they don't need.

Beautiful flower

These beautiful flowers grow in the sewer trenches throughout the city. They are so beautiful. To think they come from such a horrible place.

Pancakes?

Sister Whitehead is enjoying this large German pancake we had in a restaurant in Suriname. It is very thin like a crepe and has different toppings on it. They were very good but they were a lot to eat for the Sister.

Boys bathroom

This school doesn't have any of their 3 bathrooms working. The situation is horrible and the kids have such a mess especially for the girls. None of the bathrooms have toilets that work, seats on the toilets or paper. We will fix everything for them if we can. This picture is of the urinials in the boys bathroom

bucket brigade

In order to flush the toilets in this school of 850 students, the kids have to fill one of these buckets with water and take into the bathroom and pour the water down the toilet. We are going to replace the water system and fixtures so the little kids can go to the restroom without such a mess. This project is in Suriname (Dutch speaking country next to Guyana).

Frogs anyone

Back in the jungle in Suriname we came across this pond with baby frogs. They get together in large groups according to age and just float like you see. Weird isn't it.

What a mess

We were walking down the street in Suriname and saw this mess of wiring on the pole. I don't know how they figure where everything goes.

Peter Pan's ship

Actually this is a tall sailing ship in the harbor in Paramaribo, Suriname. It was fun to see all of the different sails and items involved in such a beautiful ship.

Beautiful Dutch flowers

In Suriname, we were walking on the sidewalks and came up on these wonderful Dutch flowers for sale. The Dutch love flowers.

Snake anyone?

We were coming back from Suriname and came across these two guys wrestling with this 12' Boa they just caught in their back yard. I asked them if they were going to eat it and they said they don't taste good so they are going to sell it for about $200.

My first talk

This is a picture of me talking to a large group of people we just gave a lot of equipment to. Our church gives a lot of money to this organization each year to help the youth stay off the streets at night. We gave them cricket equipment this year and other things.

What are those things

These look like bananas but they are called planteen. The locals cut them in up in thin slices and deep fry them. It's their chips-like our potato chips. They are really good.
