Wash Day

Today was a sunny day to hang clothes out so I took advantage of it. This is outside our back door. We have a washer in our apartment but no dryer. This is considered the rainy season so most of the time we hang clothes all over the apartment to dry.

Farewell and welcome dinner

The couple we are replacing (Tanner's) had a farewell dinner. It was also a welcoming dinner for us. It was also the best food money could buy in Guyana. For 16 people it cost $48,000. There are 200 Guyanse dollars to every American dollar. Figure it out.

Can you see the baby

We were at the ocean the other day and a bunch of monkeys came out of the tree. One of them landed on top of my head and shoulders. This is a picture of a mother with a young monkey on her back. They were very friendly and seemed very clean. Tourists give them lots of fruit.

Little boys room

Here is a picture of the little boys room at the day care center. I'll bet there is a mess to clean up after all the little boys get through.

Day care center in the Dominican Republic

This day care center which received many things from the Church has over 150 beds for the kids while their mothers work. A lot of the children have mothers that work the street.

Santo Domingo

This is the LDS Church we attended in a very small village outside of Santo Domingo. The service was very loud because of the traffic in front of the building.

Today was the big day! Yes it is official, Elder and Sister Whitehead are currently living at the MTC. Elder Whitehead was so excited that both Cameron and I got the feeling he wanted us to leave promptly so he could go and investigate. (Does that surprise you?) Sister Whitehead however was more relaxed and happy to be spending time with the family. The atmosphere at the MTC was so relaxed and calm, not like when a young Elder or Sister arrives at the MTC. We were able to see the accommodations set up for them. "The little dorm room". You should have seen Sister Whitehead's eyes when she saw her new home! That was priceless!! Hopefully they are now all unpacked and thoroughly enjoying the first day of their mission. Elder Whitehead was a true joy to watch, because he was so eager and excited to put on his name tag and represent the church. Cameron and I are very grateful to have shared this experience with them. God be with you till we meet again Grandma & Grandpa ! We love you- Amy & family

(Ok, ok, I will try and let Vince post something himself after this, since his personal photographer is not longer near by. )

Farewell Pictures

Mission Farewell

Today was the big farewell! Many friends and family came to support my in-laws in this endeavor. Sister Whitehead (Mother-in-law) did a nice job explaining how you can not bargain with the Lord as she did, because she is now one week away from starting her mission. Brother Whitehead (Father-in-law) talked about humanitarian missions and how they are different from other missions. If nothing else, I think it was their hope that maybe, just maybe they could spark some interest in someone to serve a mission. There are so many different missions available to meet the needs of the members of the church, that when the time is right, anyone can serve.

Funny dialogue from sacrament meeting:

BRAKEN (grandson): Mom do girls have to go on missions?
AMY (me): They do not have to, but can if they want to when they are 21.
BRENNA (granddaughter): Dad is Grandma 21?

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha.....

I've included the following song sang to by Sister Whitehead's singing group at the farewell dinner. However, I do not know the tune, so enjoy the words!

Corliss used to think Guyana was in Africa. Her hair had to be colored every month. west Indies was somewhere very far away, she and Vince here in Clifton would stay. Now she's developed quite a craving and you'll always hear her raving 'bout a certain place that needs her there real soon. Don't even try to guess, cuz it's time that we confess that somewheres never going to be the same!

Guyana, yes it's Guyana. She's going to leave her home and serve there. On a bike or on her feet she will serve there and be sweet. Guyana, Guyana, Guyana.

The bike trips they used to count on to have their share of fun. Don't seem to be important serving a mission is second to none. Examples to us all of sacrifice and love. A willing heart and mind and might to go. They'll share their love with all whether short or tall.

Guyana, yes Guyana. She's going to leave her home and serve there. On a boat or on her feet she will serve there and be sweet. In Guyana, Guyana, Guyana. --

Now I've given you a brief snack from their farewell, and need to go back to Clifton to help clean up. Until next time- Amy (daughter-in-law)

The Preston Citizen November 19,2008. This Sunday we will be having our farewell. So much to do in so little time (have our farewell, enjoy Thanksgiving, then leave for our mission). We will post some pictures of our farewell activities and of our family and friends as soon as we can.

Hello from our home in Clifton, Idaho! We will be leaving for our mission December 1, 2008. My daughter in-law Amy thought it would be nice to have a way for all of our family and friends to experience our mission . Thus, consider this is a blog in the making. We hope that you will find it as enjoyable as our mission experience should be. If you ever would like to add to this site please let us know! Have a great day!
