Senior missionaries

Here are the senior missionaries serving in Jamaica. We met at a restaurant way up in the mountains called Strawberry Hill. It was beautiful and the food was very good. We like to be with the other missionaries and visit. They have become great friends with us and we love them.

What a view

Here is a view of Kingston from Strawberry Hill. It's a big city with over a million people living there. We are always glad to work outside of Kingston and be away from the traffic and hoards of people.

Harvesting chickens

This is a large group of women that are slaughtering their chickens. They processed about 300 that day and it was messy. We want our participants to be able to process their chickens, sell them then buy a new batch to start the process all over again. Usually it works but sometimes they spend the money on something else.

Buying goats

We went to a large farm in the country that had a large herd of goats. We bought 4 goats that day at a cost of about $80.00 each. They are old enough to have their own little families so when they get to their new home, they will do so. People in Jamaica eat goat so there are thousands of them here. Most female goats have twins and can have two births in one year.

Loading goats

After we purchased the goats, we loaded them in the back of our pick up and drove them to their new home several miles away. We tied them in the back of the truck so their heads were low to the bed so they couldn't stand up and try to jump out. It worked!!

Goat pen

This is the new home for the goats that we purchased. It was designed by us senior missionairies and the local participants built it for a member of their branch.

Jamaica time

We had a Christmas party at our branch. It was supposed to start at 4 pm and this is a picture of who was there at 5. Only Sister Whitehead and I were there on time. We eventually ate at 7 that night which is typical for people here. Their favorite expression is "soon come" which means anytime in the next few hours will the meeting begin or they will meet us.

Fetching water

This little family has to fetch water every day several hundred yards from their home. Can you imagine us doing that in America. Aren't we blessed?

Cliff divers

We took our daughter Janielle and her husband Danny to a little resort and they did some cliff diving. Isn't the water beautiful.

Dancing beauties

Here is Sister Whitehead and our daughter Janielle dancing with some local dancers at a resort. They did pretty good for not being Jamaican.

Hungry missionaries

This is our Christmas party with the young Elders. They love pizza so we had 20 large pizzas delivered (on one motorcycle by the way) and we dug in and had plenty to eat with all of the salads brought in.

My new friend

Here is a picture of an old man (actually he is 5 years younger than I am) that lives in a little shack next to some of our projects. He is always asking me for food because he has so little. He has had a very hard life.
